We all know that the kitchen can be a high pressure environment at times and that the physical and mental demands can take their toll. We Also know that chefs don't necessarily always have the healthiest lifestyle.


But it doesn't have to be that way. The Tide is turning in the industry - we are beginning to realise that looking after our own mental & physical well-being at that of our team is essential and that working hard doesn't have to mean being hard on yourself, or others.

Chef Network is committed to improving the well-being of chefs and helping you gain the skills you need to look after yourself and your team. We have teamed up with Green Wave Wellness to offer a series of practical 1 day workshops for chefs in locations around the country (currently Galway & Dublin, with plans to come to Cork later in the year) - developed specifically for the industry with input from chefs, this workshop aims to equip you with realistic small changes that can help you and your team form long-lasting habits that not only improve your personal well-being but also help create an environment in your ktichen which puts wellness at its centre.


This Masterclass for professional chefs only, and aimed at chefs from Chef de Partie level upwards.

Below you will find a detailed description of the course content & format and what you can expect to learn. This is a practical interactive workshop, therefore places will be limited.

KEY THEMES/TOPICS/TECHNIQUES:

  • The 4 main components of wellbeing - Physical activity; Nutrition; Mindset & mindfulness; Relaxation, rest & sleep
  • Wellbeing at work - application of wellbeing practices in the workplace; looking a positive & negative stress

STRUCTURE/FORMAT:

  • Physical activity - including a tailored 20 minute yoga based movement practice
  • Wellbeing at Work - the difference between good & bad stress & practical ways to deal with negative stress personally & in work environment
  • Nutrition - the importance of macro & micro nutrients for whole body wellness, and the links between mood and food
  • Mindset & mindfulness - incorporating a 10-minute mindfulness practice: meditation for those who don’t meditate
  • Relaxation, rest & sleep - the importance of adequate rest & sleep & practical relaxation tips for daily life
  • Wellbeing at Work - the difference between good & bad stress & practical ways to deal with negative stress personally & in work environment

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  1.  Personal development and daily techniques to help improve wellbeing.
  2. Practical examples to improve wellbeing in the workplace, for your team.

NOTES FOR PARTICIPANTS:
GETTING THERE: Please allow ample time to arrive on time. Workshop will commence at 9.30am sharp.
Only available parking close-by is on-street metered parking. Public transport is recommended if possible. Luis, Dublin Bus, Dublin Bikes, or Dart. 

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
There will be some movement based activities and you will be asked to remove footwear - bring/wear appropriate comfortable clothes (tracksuit/workout wear). Bring a hand towel and own yoga/exercise mat if desired, but mats will be provided on the day.
Bring a pen & notebook.
Expect to be asked to switch off phones and devices during training hours, so set-up voicemail, out of office replies etc if necessary.
All facilities smoke & vape-free.

COST:  €70.00 per participant (UnSUBSIDISED FEES €130.00)

TRAINER: Maria CaldWell, Green Wave Wellness

Maria Caldwell is a yoga teacher with almost 15 years experience teaching public, corporate and one-to-one classes. Her classes incorporate a mix of movement, breathwork and meditation. She teaches dynamic yoga, restorative yoga, yoga for sports, and practical mindfulness. 
In 2015 she qualified as Health Coach - certified by the American Council on Exercise, where she is currently  studying a specialism in Nutrition for Fitness. She has a 360 approach to wellbeing - movement, nutrition, mindset and rest. 
In addition to yoga she likes to surf, hike, lift heavy weights and cook!
